Gamestar Mechanic Adventures (“Gamestar” or the “app”) is an app offered by E-Line Media (“we” or “us”) that allows users to learn how to design video games, create games and share the games they have created. This policy covers how we treat the information we collect and receive from users of Gamestar (“users” or “you”). Our goal in crafting this policy is to create a safe, entertaining and educational environment that complies with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule.
Our privacy practices, generally
We do not ask for or collect any personal information from our users in order to use the app (with the exception of allowing you to provide an email address so that we can contact you regarding a support request that you initiate). This includes not collecting personal information from children. The section of this document labelled “Information We Collect” describes the types of information we do collect and we do not collect information other than the material described in that section.
Information we collect
When you first access certain features of the app, you will have the opportunity to register a user account, called a Gamestar Mechanic account, or to log in with a Gamestar Mechanic account you have created before. When you register or log in with a Gamestar Mechanic account, you will be asked to supply information such as a username and password, however we do not ask for or store any personal information such as a real name, email address, postal address or telephone number. It is possible to use the app without a Gamestar Mechanic account, but this will limit your ability to use certain features of the app, for example saving your progress and sharing games you have made.
You may have the option of providing us with an email address in the event you initiate a support request. If you provide us with an email address in this situation, we will only use it to contact you with regard to your support request and will remove it from our system at your request once the support issue has been resolved.
When you use certain parts of the app, Gamestar may use your device’s location services feature to determine your location at the country or regional level in order to show you information within the app or enable features specific to your country/region. It may be possible to disable your device’s location services feature or deny Gamestar permission to determine your location. If you do so, the specific features of the app that require location services will not be available to you.
Information we track
When you use different features of Gamestar, our automated software and tools routinely collect information for the purposes of supporting internal operations, as described below, for example when you log in to your account, what parts of the app you have accessed and how much time was spent on each screen of the app, etc.).
As you use Gamestar, you will have the option to participate in an online community with other users. Community features include
- Sharing games you have created with other users
- Playing games other users have shared
- Receiving notifications from users who you follow
- Posting reviews or ratings for games shared by other users
These activities are optional, and our goal is to make them part of the safe, fun and educational Gamestar experience. Your participation in these activities – as with all of Gamestar – is governed by the Rules of Conduct, which describe the acceptable ways to use Gamestar.
Some of these activities (for example sharing games you have made with other users) can involve entering user-supplied text in open text fields that will be visible to other Gamestar users.
We do not ask for any personal information from you in the course of your using the Community Features. In fact, Gamestar’s Terms of Service and Rules of Conduct specifically prohibit users from sharing personal information through Community Features. While we make efforts to enforce these policies through electronic tools, selective monitoring by our staff and investigating reports from our community members; you should understand that any information you choose to share through Community Features may be accessible by anyone who uses Gamestar and that we are not responsible for your actions or the actions of other users with respect to personal information you share in this manner.
Gamestar Adventures Web Player and Cookies
As a service to our users, we provide a Gamestar Adventures Web Player (the “Web Player”). The Web Player allows someone to use a standard web browser to play a game you have shared.
While we do not ask for any personal information from users of the Web Player, our automated tools and software routinely collect information from users of the Web Player to support our internal operations, as described below. Such information may include IP address, browser/device type/capabilities, network/geographic location (at the city/state level) and site usage data (for example: what pages are accessed, how much time was spent on each page, etc.).
In common with many websites, the Web Player places small files known as “cookies” on users’ machines. Cookies provide a convenient experience for our users, keeping track of user identities as they navigate to different parts of the Web Player.
We may allow third parties to place and read their own cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information through the Web Player. For example, our third-party service providers may use these technologies to collect information that helps us to support our internal operations.
For the best user experience, we recommend that you allow your web browser to accept cookies from the Web Player. It is possible to configure your web browser not to accept cookies, but this may cause some features of the Web Player not to work properly.
How we use the information we collect
We use the information we collect to enable Gamestar features; respond to your requests and provide customer service; let you know about new features and other news from Gamestar; ask for your input and feedback on what we are doing; and provide personalized services and recommendations.
As noted above, you may receive email from us related specifically to a customer service request you initiate.
We use information about your location (collected only at the country or regional level) to show you information or enable features within the app that are specific to your country/region, for example showing information to you about a design challenge that is open only to users in your country. We do not store location information or location history for individual users and we do not use location information for any other purposes. This includes not sharing your location information with third parties and not using your location information to serve you geographically-targeted third-party ads or other third party content.
We use data we collect to support our internal operations, for example improving the quality and design of our services; and to create new features, promotions, and services by storing, tracking, and analyzing user activity, preferences and trends.
Agents and service providers
As part of our regular business conduct, we may securely share information with third-party companies or individuals providing services or acting as agents on our behalf, such as companies providing payment processing, technological or fulfillment services.
Sponsors and researchers
Occasionally, we may share non-personal, anonymized and/or aggregate data with third parties such as sponsors or academic researchers who are conducting research involving Gamestar.
Third party services
As a convenience for our users, we may provide access or links to or integrations with third-party sites, services and content through the app, for example to social networks; or services provided by your device manufacturer, device vendor or operating system provider, (collectively “third-party services”). If you access third-party services through Gamestar, we may collect information about you from those services. In addition, those third-party services may be able to collect information about you, including information about your activity in Gamestar, and they may notify your connections about your use of Gamestar, in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Removing your information
At your request, we will gladly remove your user account and any personal information you may have provided us from our system. To make such a request, please email us at email@example.com.
